Science: The scientific methods include radiocarbon 14 dating, archaeological investigations, and geological investigations. Until the different researchers arrive at the same conclusion, Carbon-14 dating will continue to be a guessing game when it comes to the pyramids. Some radiocarbon dating results date the pyramids from a time spanning Dynasty 3 to late Dynasty 5 and giving them an average age of 374 years older than the Cambridge Ancient History dates of the kings with whom the pyramids are identified. There is an old saying in the archaeological trade: .Until a C14 date is crosschecked by other lines of evidence or is backed up by a suite of other carbon dates, it is not a valid peg on which to hang an absolute chronology.Other decidedly odd fringe arguments for the Great Pyramid include a colossal water pump and nuclear reactor.Fringe themes range far and wide, but in the end none of them stands up to scrutiny.Other radiocarbon dates range from 2532 to 2504 BC.Archaeology: Some archaeologists believe Egypt’s large pyramids are the work of the Old Kingdom which was in the Nile Valley after 3000 B. According to one archaeological theory, the three pyramids on the Giza plateau are structures of three kings of the fourth dynasty, 2575 to 2465 BCE. Schoch traveled to Egypt in 1990 with the purpose of examining the Great Sphinx from a geological perspective.
Also, without some background or a framework to help the Christian gain some perspective on the issues, it is difficult to be discerning about any information that claims to solve the many mysteries that Egypt presents—and there are dozens of those from Christian researchers alone!
One of the chief problems with the fringe position is the tendency to pull the Great Pyramid out of context, as though it somehow stands alone, unrelated, in the span and breadth of pharaonic Egypt. I would like to relate some points in the orthodox position that makes it clear the Great Pyramid was a tomb.
This article is not about how the pyramid was built, which is another debate altogether.
But what about the other chief line of evidence: the radiocarbon dates and associated archaeological materials that are said to support a megalithic building history going back as far as 20,000 BC, the putative era of the lost supercivilization of Atlantis?
The Radiocarbon Dates First, a word on radiocarbon dates in general.
